One of the Apple world's most respected publications put our Thunderbolt 5 dock through its paces. Here's their verdict.

Macworld has awarded the Brydge ProDock Trio its Editors' Choice, following a full hands-on review by contributor Simon Jary, a former Macworld editor who has been testing docks and adapters for three decades.

We didn't pay for the review and had no say in the outcome. They asked for a unit, tested it, and published what they found.

What they tested

Jary's review focused on the thing that makes the ProDock different from every other dock on the market: it stands vertically, and your closed MacBook slides into it. No cable hunting, no dock hidden behind the monitor, no laptop taking up half the desk. He noted that the ProDock removes the desk-hogging problem entirely, which is exactly the frustration we designed it to solve.

On the connectivity side, the review called out the Trio's three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet, 140W PD 3.1 charging for the host MacBook, and the MagSafe-compatible wireless pad on the front. Jary's view was that Thunderbolt 5 will be the mainstay connection for Macs for years ahead, which makes it a sensible thing to buy into now even if your current machine is Thunderbolt 4.

Their verdict described the Trio as "a neat, unique solution that adds a tidy stack of speedy connections" to a MacBook without cluttering the desk. macworld



Choosing across the ProDock range

Macworld reviewed the Trio, our top-end Thunderbolt 5 model, but also looked at the wider family. Their guidance on the Trio versus the Thunderbolt 4 Duo was that the Trio is worth the step up at current pricing, for the Thunderbolt 5 headroom, 2.5Gb Ethernet, faster USB-C and higher power output. The entry-level Solo remains the pick for single-display MacBook Air setups.
